(SP-17) Installation Guide

The purpose of this document is to explain to the end-user the process of installing DataVard's OutBoard DataTiering.
This document is aimed primarily at SAP system administrators and BW consultants who should primary work with OutBoard DataTiering.

Installation

Prerequisites

  • You have obtained the OutBoard DataTiering installation package
  • You have obtained a valid license from your Datavard consultant
  • Your system has SAP Add-On Installation Tool (transaction SAINT) version 33 or higher
  • System has Add-Ons
    • SAP_ABA 700 or higher
    • SAP_BASIS 700 or higher
    • SAP_BW 700 with SP 6 or higher

Step-by-step Installation Process

  1. The OutBoard installation package is an Add-On, which must be imported using the Add-On Installation Tool (transaction SAINT). Upload and import the file using the wizard (detailed guide can be found in SAINT online documentation). OutBoard support packages must be updated using the SPAM Update (transaction SPAM) up to level 17 (detailed guide can be found in SPAM online documentation). As a result of the SP17 installation, a software component DVD 200 with Level 17 will be available in the system as shown on the screen.

  2. (optional) In case of ADSO support is needed on system it has to be imported transport HD1K900237 that is included in OutBoard installation package. More info about support of ADSO can be found in OutBoard user documentation.

  3. Access the OutBoard Cockpit by entering the transaction /n/DVD/OUTBOARD in your BI system. Go to "License" in the top menu and click on "Install License" or press F2.

  4. Now, enter the calendar date until which the license is valid and your license in the fields below. Press F8 to complete the installation.

  5. To make the system aware that OutBoard is available to the system a registration will need to be done. This is done in transaction RSDANLCON. To register OutBoard, creates a customizing entry with Nearline Conn. OutBoard and Name of Class /DVD/NLS_CONNECTION.

Congratulations! Now you can use DataVard OutBoard DataTiering for data archiving.
After installation, the next basic step is to determine which data you should archive. OutBoard DataTiering can automatically help you analyze this, based on best practices from other companies and the size of your database tables. You can immediately archive your data based on this analysis, or you can step in and manually select the data you wish to archive. We will show you how to perform these functions in the following section.
