(SP39) Installation Guide

The purpose of this document is to explain to the end-user the process of installing SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering.
This document is aimed at SAP system administrators and BW consultants who should primarily work with SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering.

Installation

Prerequisites

  • SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering installation package
  • A valid license obtained from your consultant
  • SAP Add-On Installation Tool (transaction SAINT) version 33 or higher
  • SAP NetWeaver 7.01 with SP 6 or a higher version

Step-by-step Installation Process

  1. The OutBoard installation package is an add-on which must be imported using the Add-On Installation Tool (transaction SAINT). Use only PAT files related to your BW release. Upload and import the first *.pat file with Outboard SP0 (NSQ0020598870_0000093.PAT) and the last *.pat file with actual SP. Install the tool using the wizard (a detailed guide can be found in the Saint online documentation).
    After a successful SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering installation, the software component DVD 200 will be available in the system.

  2. (SP39) Writer Installation NLS Writer
  3. Access the OutBoard Cockpit by entering the transaction /n/DVD/OUTBOARD in your BI system.
  4. Select License in the top menu and click on Install License or press F2.

  5. Now enter the calendar date until which the license is valid and your License key in the fields below.
  6. Press F8 to complete the installation.

  7. To make the system aware that SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering is available you should complete a registration. This is performed with the transaction RSDANLCON.
  8. To register SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering fill in ‘OUTBOARD’ in Near-Line Conn. and fill in ‘/DVD/NLS_CONNECTION’ in Name of Class.
  9. Now it is possible to archive into the Default cluster storage or you can set up your own Storage management profile. More information can be found in the chapter Storage Management Setup.

Congratulations! Now you can use SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering for data archiving.
After installation, the next step is to determine which data you should archive. SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering can automatically help you to analyze this based on best practices from other companies and the size of your database tables. You can immediately archive your data based on this analysis, or you can manually select the data you wish to archive.
