(SP38) Upgrade SAP BW with SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering

Prerequisites

  • SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering version SP13 or later (in the case of an older version, please contact our Support team for an upgrade)
  • Transport with the report /DVD/NLS_FIX_OBJECTS (included in the SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering version SP18 or later)
  • SAP BW 7.x

Upgrade process

  1. Import the transport request with the report /DVD/NLS_FIX_OBJECTS for adjusting DVD objects (data types, structures, generated reports, etc.) to prevent SAP to delete or modify these objects during the SAP upgrade process.

  2. Run this report with the following settings:

    We strongly recommend performing this step before the SAP BW upgrade to avoid any issues which could arise with this update.

  3. Start the BW upgrade process through the SAP upgrade tool (SUM).

  4. During the upgrade, mark by Decision about add-on DVD (see below) the option to keep the add-on and use the vendor key for the particular BW version. See the list of vendor keys below.

  5. Contact our Support team for the new SNP OutBoard™ Data Tiering license for the new BW version.

  6. Access the OutBoard Cockpit by entering the transaction /n/DVD/OUTBOARD in your BI system.
  7. Select License in the top menu and click on Install License or press F2.
  8. Now enter the calendar date until which the license is valid and your License key in the fields below.
  9. Press F8.
  10. If you use the master data replication feature, please run the report /DVD/NL2_SM_NAV_ATTR_REPLICATE.
  11. It's also necessary to set up the parameter WRITER_3X_GEN_REP_TEMPLATE correctly. According to your BW version, you can then choose from the following options: /DVD/NLS_W2_3XTMPL_701_0014, /DVD/NLS_W2_3XTMPL_730_0008, /DVD/NLS_W2_3XTMPL_740_0010 and /DVD/NLS_W2_3XTMPL_750_0009.
