(SP26) Synchronization Process

The synchronization process is required when the archive or the primary database has been restored to a certain point in time and there is an inconsistent state between them.

To synchronize the archive with the primary database:

  1. If the archive was restored to the previous state, execute the report /DVD/SM_PIT_HANA_SYNCHRONIZE.
If the primary database was restored to the previous state, execute the report /DVD/SM_PIT_ARCH_SYNCHRONIZE.

  2. Then, enter your Run ID and select Create.

If you want to re-open an existing Run ID you can do it by entering its name and clicking on Display. It is also possible to delete an existing Run ID.

    • The synchronization process contains 2 task groups:
      • Analysis: This optional task analyzes which operations are required to make the archive consistent with the primary database.
      • Execution: This task performs operations to make the archive consistent with the primary database.
For each group there are three operations.

  3. Run the PIT recovery tasks:
    1. Generate a task for each InfoProvider by clicking on Generate the analysis / synchronization tasks. Then, select InfoProviders you want to synchronize and Execute.

If any of the synchronization tasks fails, create new Run ID, generate new synchronization tasks for these InfoProviders with marked Repair checkbox and execute them.

    2.  Execute either the analysis tasks (Click Analyze the InfoProviders) or the synchronization tasks (Click Execute the synchronization process) that were previously generated for the InfoProviders.
      1. Number of jobs: number of jobs which run parallel. The default value is 1. To increase the speed of processing, increase the number of background jobs.
      2. App. server name: application server on which the jobs are executed
      3. Keep alive: if marked, the number of background jobs stays the same even when one or more jobs fail

    3. Display a report detailing the operations that are completed for each InfoProvider by clicking Show the results of the analysis or synchronization.
      • Number of actions: number of actions executed on the archive table
      • Processed lines: number of lines inserted into the archive table
      • Status: status of the synchronization
        • – the primary database and the archive are consistent
        • – the primary database and the archive are not consistent
        • – unexpected error during analysis/synchronization
        •  – analysis/synchronization is running
      • Progress: progress of the analysis/synchronization
      • Logs: logs with detailed information about the analysis/synchronization
