To add your Oracle Database (DB) systems to the Monitor, follow these steps:

1. In the main application toolbar, click or press (Shift + F1). A pop-up for adding a new system appears.

2. Select the main system type Oracle database.

3. In the System name, type the name of the DB system (maximum 10 alphanumerical uppercase characters without space). Fill also the Description of the system.

4. Type a connection name of the ORACLE database in the field DB connection. You can display available DB connections, when you click on the right side of the field with the tool-tip Open DBCO transaction. Then, click Check DB connection.
The system checks the connection to the ORACLE database system. If the connection is present, the system displays connection time to a the remote DB system in the application status. If the connection time is greater than 10 seconds then it will be set in the field Max. time [s] for PING.
If there are connection problems, or if the DB user of the connection doesn't hav
e sufficient authorization, the system displays an error message.

5. In Maximum time for PING in the seconds you can set up a maximum time for PING. When the DB system doesn't respond after the maximum time set here, then a red light icon in the monitoring pool highlights that the DB system is not accessible.

Recommended value for PING is at least 10 seconds also in the case of a fast connection. Maximum PING time is 60 seconds


8. Finally, click on the green button Add system or press F8. The system will ask you to generate new KPIs from system metrics of the ORACLE database. After you confirm a KPI generator opens. You can generate KPIs later with the executing program /DVD/MON_ORA_SM_KPI_GEN through the transaction SE38.

9. In the generator click Execute.

10. The system connects to ORACLE DB, downloads information about all system metrics and creates new KPIs for them with the prefix XORA_*. The system creates a new KPI group with the name XORA - "Generated KPIs" with corresponding subgroups and also the profile XORA_5MIN. Then return back to the cockpit through BACK(F3).

11. The system displays a dialog with a list of identified ORACLE nodes (hosts). Mark those nodes, which you want to monitor. Confirm.

12. Once the Oracle DB is added, you can start the default monitoring by clicking Start default monitoring in the menu bar. This executes all Collector jobs with the customized KPIs and default times.

13. To display the collected KPIs, click on KPI group All KPI > Database > Oracle Specific and click on tab KPI charts.
