(SM-2311) Storage Maintenance
This guide describes how to evaluate the health of the storage, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot issues.
Assessing the health of your storage
You can easily check the health of your connection by using the built-in testing feature of storage management. This will make sure the setup is correct and remote resources are available and working correctly.
Open transaction
/DVD/SM_SETUP
.Double-click the storage you want to check.
Click the
Check
button.Evaluate the response.
Troubleshooting storages
When you experience issues with the connection, it is necessary to investigate to pinpoint the issue. This guide will describe the basic troubleshooting procedure.
Things to consider:
Network between SAP and storage
Credentials validity
Connection to Java connector
Unavailability of target storage
Connection test
This basic check will tell you if the communication seems to be working at this moment. It will also help you identify any detectable mistakes in the setup. To perform the test, go to transaction /DVD/SM_SETUP
, select your storage from the context menu, and choose Check storage.
Sometimes the dialog will display a part of the Java log. This indicates an issue inside the Java connector. In that case, you should display Java logs separately to learn more.
Displaying Java logs
You can access Java logs directly from the storage screen. There is a separate log file for every application server where the Java connector runs, so make sure you are displaying the log on the correct application server.
or through transaction /DVD/JCO_MNG
Backing up your setup
If you want to back up your setup before major changes you can use the built-in backup utility. This is frequently used during Quality system copy from Production.
Go to
/DVD/SM_SETUP.
In the toolbar select
Tools
>SM Backup.
Choose a path where to save the backup.
By default, all required tables are backed up, but you can manually expand the selection.
Execute.
To restore the setup from the backup, open the tool again, choose a backup file, and select the Import radio button.
Upgrading Storage Management
Storage management upgrade usually comes together with a new (quarterly) release of Outboard or Glue. You just need to import the new transports and manually upgrade to the latest release of Java connector.
