(DI-2111) Oracle Database

The prerequisite for adding a system for Oracle Database monitoring is to have a valid Secondary Database Connection created. More details can be found in the chapter Create a Secondary Connection to Oracle Database.

To add a new system for Oracle Database monitoring, please follow these steps:

  1. Select the main system type Oracle database

  2. Following screen appears for Oracle system information.

  3. Enter System name and Description

  4. Enter a valid DB Connection (you might find more details in the chapter Create a Secondary Connection to Oracle Database).

  5. Press Check DB connection

    1. If any error occurred, press the button Open DBCO transaction next to DB Connection field and maintain this connection according to steps described on page Create a Secondary Connection to Oracle Database).

  6. (Optional) You might change the Max.time [s] value to set the maximum time for connection ping.

    1. When the connection does not respond after the maximum time set here, then a red light icon in the monitoring pool is displayed (not accessible).

    2. Recommended value for connection ping is at least 10 seconds (also for fast connections)

  7. Confirm the setup

  8. The system will ask you to generate new KPIs for the Oracle database.

    1. When confirmed, it opens the KPI generator for Oracle system metrics.

      1. Enter the same DB Connection as in the previous step.

      2. Execute the report in non-testing mode.

      3. Report downloads the information about all system metrics and creates new KPIs with the prefix XORA_* and also creates a new KPI group XORA (“Generated KPIs”). All generated KPIs are later on collected by profile XORA_5MIN. A list of generated KPIs is displayed in spool output.

      4. Return back from the KPI generator report and continue with step 9.

    2. You can generate KPIs later with the executing program /DVD/MON_ORA_SM_KPI_GEN through the transaction SE38.

  9. The following screen appears with the auto-detected DB server(s). Make sure that the Monitor flag is selected and press Confirm.

  10. System for Oracle Database monitoring was added. You can start the monitoring by clicking the button Start default monitoring in the menu bar. It starts the Collector jobs for Oracle Database monitoring.
