To operate Datavard Glue™ in a productive environment, there are different options how to run the data extraction out of SAP. You can implement an SAP-led data provisioning process or a business-led process.

SAP-led data provisioning

Process (simplified):

  • Business analysts requesting data for further consumption from the SAP team (Data Request template or process to be established.

  •  SAP team is setting up the extraction and transformation rules in Datavard Glue™ and seeks confirmation from the business before actual extraction

  • Once confirmed, Datavard Glue™ automatically extract the data set and takes care of any delta loads and updates

  • Every extraction can be used many times and/or for new upcoming requirements

  • Final state will provide a rich catalogue of existing data extractors which can be added to the data request template

Engagement model:

  • Initially, a lot of iterations between SAP/IT and business will be needed to identify and confirm the required data sets and formats

  •  Going forward, high standardization, automation and governance of the overall data provisioning process and data pipelines

Ownership:

  • The business owns the tool and process, SAP/IT supports and operates

  •  Strict split between SAP and business – SAP for the technical operation of the tool, business for data consumptions and analytics

  • No need for the business team to learn and adopt SAP skills

  • Maintenance and technical support is done by SAP/IT

  • The possibility of re-using the Datavard for other units and purposes

 

Business-led data provisioning

  • SAP/IT is setting up and deploys Datavard Glue™ and hands over to business

  • Business analysts are using the tool independently and set up the extraction and transformation rules in Datavard Glue™

  • Datavard Glue™ automatically extract the data set and takes care of any delta loads and updates

  • Every extraction can be used many times and/or for new upcoming requirements

  • Final state will provide a rich catalogue of existing data extractors which can be added to the data request template

Engagement model:

  • The business operates the tool and identifies the required datasets and define the output formats in the target system

  • Datavard Glue™ capabilities such as BPL (Business Process Library) will support and simplify this process

  •  Going forward, high standardization, automation and governance of the overall data provisioning process and data pipelines

Ownership:

  • The business owns the tool and process and operates, SAP/IT takes care of technical supports

  • Business is responsible for tool operating, extracting, consumptions and analytics

  • The business team need to learn and adopt certain SAP skills
